Shri Guru Ravidass Ji created the Punjabi script and his hymns are written in Ragas (phrases that can be sung). The Bhawan provides educational classes in Punjabi and music to enable our children to recite our Guru’s Bani as he originally intended.
Punjabi Classes for Children
The Bhawan has light and spacious classrooms for teaching. Punjabi Classes at the Bhawan are held every Sunday day between 11:00 am -1:00 pm for beginners. A PC with fast internet is available for the children (under the supervision of the teacher).
Refreshments will be available at the beginning and the end of the class.
Music, Paath and Kirtan Classes
The Bhawan can arrange for the sangat and their children to learn Kirtan, Paath; to play the harmonium and the tabla (instruments that are regularly used during religious services).
Future Aspirations
Our history and culture are very important – as prejudice based on the caste system has marginalised our community & culture. The Bhawan will be arranging regular talks, discussion groups and lectures about our history, culture, and heritage – to our community and wider society.
We realise that the young people being bought up in inner city environments with all the disadvantages that entail may require additional help and support. We will offer free tuition for GCSE English, Math and Science for any child from our community whose parent/s are members of the Bhawan.
Library
Our library is for the benefit of our members and the Ravidass Community and is free to use. It is well lit and in a quiet area of the Bhawan.
We have a large collection of books available in Punjabi and English. We also have a collection of CDs and weekly Punjabi newspapers.
The Bhawan will assist any academic from our community who wishes to research the life and teaching of Shri Guru Ravidass Ji and/or the history of our community.
We hope to be able to have available any book written on the life, history and teaching of Shri Guru Ravidass Ji in any language rage. We will also have available any book written by Dr. B R Ambedker, including the Indian Constitution.
Opening Times: Sunday 2:00pm – 3:00pm
If you wish to borrow or donate any books/material in good condition please contact the Education Secretary. Please assist us by donating any book/s that you have which are suitable for the Bhawan’s Library.
